Our charities

Les Buttes was created by our parents, Martin and Josephine Ozanne. As we take it forward, we want part of its future to reflect the care, resilience and belief in people that shaped their lives.

Why these causes matter to us

A legacy of community, care and second chances

Martin and Josephine restored Les Buttes, raised their family here and were deeply rooted in Guernsey life. Mum lived with multiple sclerosis, while Dad lived with a heart condition for much of his life. Les Bourgs Hospice provided Mum with invaluable respite care and, in doing so, gave Dad vital support as her carer. Dad also believed strongly in giving people another chance. Through his building firm he supported people returning to the community after prison, including by offering employment, and his work as a prison inspector kept him closely connected with rehabilitation and life after release. The causes on this page are therefore personal to us. They reflect people and organisations whose work connects directly with our family's experience and with the values we want Les Buttes to carry forward.

Events

Fundraising events

From time to time we will take on fundraising challenges for causes that mean something to our family. You can see what is coming up, find out why we are doing it and support us if you would like to.

HOKA Hackney Half — running for MS-UK

DateSunday 16 May 2027TimeTo be confirmedLocationHackney Marshes, London

On Sunday 16 May 2027, Michael, Kate and Kate's daughter Lucie will run the HOKA Hackney Half in support of MS-UK and in memory of Josephine. Mum lived with multiple sclerosis, so supporting people affected by MS is a cause with a very personal connection for us. MS-UK provides independent information, practical support and services designed around people living with MS. If you would like to support our run, donations can be made through our GiveStar fundraising page.

MS Society

Mum, Josephine, lived with multiple sclerosis. Supporting people affected by MS, and the families around them, therefore has a very direct connection to our own family. The MS Society provides information and support for people living with MS, campaigns for better services and funds research into treatments and ways to stop the condition.

Creative Learning in Prison (CLIP) Guernsey

CLIP Guernsey

CLIP — Creative Learning in Prison — supports prisoners in Guernsey through education, practical learning and work that helps prepare people for life back in the community. That has a particular resonance for our family. Dad supported people in prison and after release, sometimes by giving them employment in his building firm, because he believed people should not be defined by their worst moment. We are also asking CLIP to supply the garden benches at Les Buttes. They will be places for our guests to sit and enjoy the gardens, but they will also carry a little of that idea with them: useful things made through purposeful work and rehabilitation. When the benches are in place, we will replace this temporary image with photographs of them at Les Buttes.

Les Bourgs Hospice at Andrew Mitchell House in Guernsey

Les Bourgs Hospice

Les Bourgs Hospice has a very special place in our family's story. The Hospice provided Mum with respite care and supported Dad while he cared for her. The compassion and practical support they gave our family meant a great deal to us. Les Bourgs provides specialist palliative, respite, symptom-control and end-of-life care for people across the Bailiwick of Guernsey, as well as support for their families.

Cardiac Action Group

Dad lived with a heart condition for much of his life, so heart health is another cause with a strong personal connection for us. The Guernsey Cardiac Action Group works to improve awareness of heart health and maintains a growing island-wide network of Public Access Defibrillator sites, helping make life-saving equipment available in the community when it is needed.

Looking ahead

Making giving part of Les Buttes

Alongside individual fundraising events and practical support for local causes, we are looking at how charitable giving can become a regular part of Les Buttes. One option is to dedicate a defined percentage of annual profits to a chosen charity, potentially including Les Bourgs Hospice. We have not set the percentage or structure yet, and do not want to make a promise before we know it can be sustained. Once we have agreed the approach, we will publish the commitment here.
